Educational Pairings

Is your chance to think through the teaching materials on our site and to see what you can do with them. What lessons or blog posts would you combine? What new questions arise for you after working through a background section or a PDF?

We want to know! Send your ideas to melanie@thelibertycapfoundation.org and please consider applying for our $2000 Curriculum Awards. For more on the Curriculum Awards, click here.

If you win an award, we will feature your curriculum on our site.

Meanwhile, here is a new pairing we suggest:

Read “Changing Liberty”

alongside

“Teddy Rooseveldt’s Competing Americas and the Lincoln Cent.”

Option 1: Ask new Questions:

  • Over the 20th century, the image of Liberty as female lessened. Referring back to the two texts, why might this be?

  • Researching images of liberty in the 20th century, what do you notice? What events or reasons might there be for the images you see? How or where do you see your ideas in 20th or 21st century coins?

Option 2: Approach the two texts using the steps of Design Thinking. Who is the audience for the coins, for example (here there might be several audiences—take time to think through who they are)? Continue to use the steps and reference the articles to work through the process, which should better illuminate the coins and the changes in Liberty and liberty.
